May is Bike Month! Celebrate with a self-guided bike ride exploring arts and history throughout the communities of East LA.
The Mural Ride returns to the Eastside! Hosted by People for Mobility Justice and presented by Metro’s Bicycle Education Safety Training Program, this self-guided route explores the rich arts and culture of East LA communities, such as Boyle Heights, with a long history of artists painting murals that reflect the cultural values and traditions of a majority immigrant and Latinx community.
In 2015, People for Mobility Justice hosted the first Eastside Mural Ride after being inspired by community members who organized a mural ride in Northeast L.A. PMJ has continued to organize this ride over the years with the intention of bringing the community together to learn about the murals, their history, and their place in the community.
While this ride is being organized by PMJ and funded by Metro, we strongly encourage all individuals who will be going on this self-guided tour to reflect on how the impact of gentrification and displacement have changed Eastside communities. Support local vendors, be respectful of the community, and the spaces you will be visiting.
PMJ is offering a virtual ride overview to provide bike safety tips, ride guidance, and a brief history of the arts and murals featured along the route. For more information, register here:

This event is made possible by Metro Los Angeles and People for Mobility Justice (the "Event Organizers").
Like any sport, bicycling involves the risk of injury and damage. By choosing to ride a bicycle, you assume full responsibility for that risk, so you need to know, and practice, the rules of safe and responsible riding and of proper use and maintenance of your bicycle.
Because it is impossible to anticipate every situation and condition that can occur while riding your bicycle, event organizers make no representation of the condition of the route. There are risks associated with the use of any bicycle which cannot be predicted or avoided, and which are the sole responsibility of the rider.
All ride materials provided by the Event Organizers are for your convenience and informational purposes only. The Event Organizers do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or sufficiency of the tours or the other information provided by the Event Organizers and will not be liable to you or any third party with respect to the tours or any other information provided. In particular, road and path conditions may have changed, so be sure to plan ahead. Always wear a helmet when riding your bike. Be sure to ride your bike safely, respectfully and within the limits of the law and your abilities.
Metro's Bicycle Education Safety Training (BEST) Program currently offers bike classes at 4 different levels—Bicycling 101 and 1, 2, 3. If you are interested in taking classes at the next level or joining a community bike ride, check out the full event calendar.
